An old cob church built in the 1850's and now demolished. Was in Spring Grove, Nelson, New Zealand and I remember as a young and naughty boy I , with some friends had a look inside and was fascinated. It had nor been used for many years but still had all the pews and stained glass windows and bibles and hymn books in place. Cob, which was a mixture of clay, sand and straw was quite common as a building material in the area. I lived up the road from here.
Mei's son george has some more adventures, this time walking through the Manawatu Gorge with my brother David. David does a lot of walking and is very fit and George commented later that David walks very fast and sometimes I did not see him and now feel a little tired.
Some of our Christmas party last night, I enjoyed it and cannot remember if everyone else did but they look happy enough. A wide range of people came, from the bus driver to other teachers hailing from South Africa, Birmingham, Alabama, Scotland, England, New Zealand and China. Also friends children, senior managers from the steel works, and architect and a judge and policemen so it was a merry band indeed. And what a fine Christmas cake too.
